Dongdaemun

The Store

This was when we opened our own direct event store in Dongdaemun. Just over 7 pyeong, which is roughly 25 square metres. You could stand in the middle and reach most of the stock.

The Crowd

It was during the pandemic and people came out anyway, masks on, and bought in volume. The register did not get a quiet hour. Half the day was spent restocking a rail that had been full twenty minutes earlier, and the other half was spent trying to move around customers in a room that had no room.

Who Came

More foreign customers in Dongdaemun than I had expected. A lot of the day was conducted in gestures and it worked fine. Dongdaemun does that. The area pulls people who have travelled specifically to buy, and they arrive knowing what things should cost.
